STEPS Program

STEM support – from start to finish

The STEPS Program provides select incoming engineering students with scholarships, mentorship, and various educational and career opportunities throughout their Temple experience.

What opportunities are available in the STEPS program?

  • Up to $40,000 in scholarships over four years

  • Personal, academic, and life skills support

  • Individualized peer, faculty, and professional/career mentoring

  • Customized STEPS first-year seminar course

  • STEM-themed speakers, workshops, and seminars

  • Outreach and service-learning engagement

  • Internships and research opportunities

Information for applicants

Who is eligible?

  • Applied and been admitted to Temple

  • Meet citizenship requirements of the National Science Foundation (U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, aliens
    admitted as refugees, or aliens with lawful permanent residence)

  • Demonstrated financial need as determined by the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Demonstrated academic success with a high school GPA of 3.0 or above

  • Intend to study electrical engineering at Temple University College of Engineering.

Additional application materials are not necessary. Eligible individuals will be pre-selected during admissions process and notified by STEPS Program staff. To learn more, reach out to program staff here>

Information for industry stakeholders

This program is of particular interest to the Energy and Power industry. Our industry partners will be providing at least one of the following supports for our scholars:

  1. Providing mentors for scholars (meeting ~1x per month throughout the fall and spring semester)
  2. Providing opportunities for scholars to interview for internships/jobs
  3. Identifying conferences of interest for the scholars
  4. Organizing field trips for scholars.
  5. Hosting professional seminars/mock interviews/panels/resume reviews etc. on or off campus for scholars to develop their professional skills.
  6. Mentoring a energy/power related senior design project.
