Graduation is a momentous occasion that marks the culmination of years of hard work, growth, and determination. For the College of Engineering, it is more than a ceremony it is a celebration of innovation, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
We encourage our graduating engineering seniors to apply to be the speaker at the College of Engineering Ceremony on Thursday, May 7th, 2026 in Pearson-McGonigle Hall.
Criteria to Apply
The Student Commencement Speaker will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Graduating Senior (August 2025 January 2026, or May 2026) with a minimum GPA of 3.00.
- Is a representative of the graduating class who has made a constructive social and/or educational impact on the Temple University community.
- Is skilled in public speaking and able to capture the celebration of this capstone event within the time allowed (2-3 minutes).
Application Process
The applicant must:
- Submit a written proposed 2-3 minute speech.
- Submit a one-page personal statement. Provide information about yourself (academic awards, membership in student organizations & honor societies, community service & involvement, career goals) as well as your reason for wishing to represent your class as the Student Commencement Speaker.
- Submit a resume.
- Submit all materials via a zip file by Wednesday, March 25th to the Director and Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications at Jesse.Leigh.Oneill@temple.edu and Casey.Tinney@temple.edu.
Once chosen, all applicants will be notified via email by Wednesday, April 1st.
