Temple's Society of Women Engineers chapter received the Silver award for Outstanding Collegiate Chapter at the organization's annual conference this weekend. As a hosting school, about 50 students attended and half received job interviews during the networking and job fair sessions. The group was also instrumental in the Invent It Build It! session, where middle and high-school girls worked with professionals and learned more about careers in engineering. Mayor Jim Kenney, recruited as a "He for SWE" ambassador, appeared at the Convention Center in support on Saturday.

We are so very honored to have received our first Outstanding Collegiate Section award from SWE, said SWE chapter president Catherine Martsolf. "When I was a Role Model at the activity table for IIBI this year, I was immediately humbled and inspired by the level of curiosity and creativity these girls had when faced with a challenge - either to create a structure out of straws and clay that is resistant to a simulated earthquake or to bioengineer an arm made of rulers and rubber bands. I am so glad they have SWE to support them. I think I speak for everyone by saying SWE has greatly inspired me and I am so excited to see how Temple SWE grows in years to come!"
