Bio

Dr. Songgang Qiu earned his Ph.D. in 1996 from the Mechanical Engineering Department at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where he conducted research in fluid mechanics and heat transfer of oscillatory flow in Stirling Engine heat exchangers and boundary layer flows with wake and separation as occurred in low pressure gas turbine airfoils. He completed his Research Associate assignment at the University of Arizona and the University of Minnesota in 1997. Prior to joining Temple University, he served as VP of R&D and Sr. Principal Engineer at energy solution companies. He served as the principle Investigator for numerous externally-funded research projects, such as Thermal Storage Systems for Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), Baseload, and Underwater Vehicles, JP-8 Fueled Generator, micro Combined Heating and Power (mCHP), and Tri-Generation (combined Heating, Cooling, and Power), Trailer Mounted Tactical CSP systems, Containerized CSP Systems, Cryogenic Coolers, Stirling Air-Conditioners, etc. His current research interests include solar energy, renewable energy, thermal energy storage, energy efficiency, bio-fuel power generation, cryogenic cooling, linear compressor/motor, heat pump/air-conditioner, and waste heat recovery.
