The College of Engineering is excited to welcome our new faculty members to the school. They bring a variety of expertise and background to complement our group of distinguished faculty. Here is some information about the new professors.

Fauzia Ahmad | Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Fauzia Ahmad

Dr. Ahmad joins Temple as an associate professor in electrical and computer engineering after over a decade at Villanova, where she served as a research professor and as head of the university's Radar Imaging Lab. Her research specialties focus on signal processing, especially for radar applications in defence and health care, and imaging. She has experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and is a respected member of the academic community. She has penned six book chapters, been part of over 200 presented and published research papers, and edited five volumes on compressive sensing.

Dr. Ahmad's education includes a Ph.D, in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997, an M.S. in electrical engineering from University of Pennsylvania in 1996, and a M.Sc. in electronics from Quaid-i-Azam University in Pakistan. Her B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Physics was earned from Punjab University, Pakistan.

Evangelia Bellas | Assistant Professor of Bioengineering

Evangelia Bellas

Dr. Bellas joins Temple University as an Assistant Professor in Bioengineering after completing her postdoctoral fellowship in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University and her visiting postdoctoral fellowship at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. She earned her doctorate at Tufts University in 2012 for her work developing silk biomaterials for soft tissue regeneration. She is an inventor on three patent/patent applications, co-authored thirty published papers, and won numerous awards. Here at Temple, her research group will focus on developing obesity disease models and soft tissue regeneration therapies. Dr. Bellas will be teaching courses in the areas of Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.

Dr. Bellas holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University in 2012, and a B.S. in Bioengineering with Minors with Biology and Psychology from Syracuse University, 2004.

Philip Dames | Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering

Phillip Dames

Dr. Dames joins Temple as assistant professor in mechanical engineering after completing postdoctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his doctorate last year in a dissertation on robotics and applications for information gathering. He has already been part of 16 published papers. His main research interest is multi-robot systems. In particular, he works on problems in planning, control, estimation, and communication to enable robots to autonomously explore and gather information in a wide variety of settings.

Dames holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and applied mechanics from University of Pennsylvania in 2015 and obtained his B.S. and M.S., Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University in 2010.

Anthony Ferrar | Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Anthony Ferrar

Dr. Ferrar joins Temple in his first full-time teaching position as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering. He recently completed a postdoctoral associate position at the University of Florida. In addition to his expertise on thermal fluids, their measurements, and aero propulsion, he's become a strong advocate for the evolving role of engineering and the changing pedagogy. Dr. Ferrar teaches his students to work on social networking, creative thinking, and social awareness in addition to technical mastery.

Ferrar obtained his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech in 2015, and his M.S. and B.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech in 2011 and 2008.

David Reiser

David Reiser

Dr. Reiser is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Center for Technology, Engineering and Management. He has worked at Temple since 2005, first as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and then an Assistant Professor in Engineering Technology. He also has professional experience, working for Alcoa, Union Camp Inc., and Lead Materials Engineer at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. This semester, he will be teaching Applied Statics, Quality Control, and a Capstone course on our main campus.

Reiser holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1983, and his M.S. in Chemical Engineering also from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1979. He received an A.B. in chemistry from Dartmouth College in 1977.

Avner Ronen

Avner Ronen

Dr. Ronen joins Temple as assistant professor in civil and environmental engineering after working at the University of California, Riverside on a postdoctoral fellowship on electrochemical wastewater treatment using electroconductive membranes. He earned his three degrees at the prestigious Techinon, the Israel Institute of Technology. He has been part of nine published papers. Before starting his Ph.D., Dr. Ronen worked as a research and development engineer at an aerospace company. His current research focuses on the development of electrically conductive membranes based on nanomaterials.

Ronen's education includes his Ph.D. in environmental engineering in 2014, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2008 and a B.S. in environmental engineering in 2006 all from Technion in Haifa, Israel.
