The Construction Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABETwww.abet.org under the General Criteria and the B.S. in Construction Engineering Criteria.

Program Educational Objectives

The BS CET program is intended to produce graduates who:

  1. are employed in industry, government or institutions as practitioners in the area of construction management.
  2. can communicate effectively in oral, written and electronic media and have the necessary teamwork and management and/or leadership skills to work and participate effectively in a team environment.
  3. can contribute to the development and improvement of the economic, technical, social and educational development of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the country and the world.

Specific program educational objectives the B.S. in construction engineering technology include the ability to:

a. utilize techniques that are appropriate to administer and evaluate construction contracts, documents, and codes 
b. estimate costs, estimate quantities, and evaluate materials for construction projects
c. utilize measuring methods, hardware, and software that are appropriate for field, laboratory, and office processes related to construction
d. apply fundamental computational methods and elementary analytical techniques in subdisciplines related to construction engineering
e. produce and utilize design, construction, and operations documents
f. perform economic analyses and cost estimates related to design, construction, and maintenance of systems associated with construction engineering

h. apply appropriate principles of construction management, law, and ethics
i. perform standard analysis and design in at least one sub-discipline related to construction engineering

Student Outcomes

(1) an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
(2) an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
(3) an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
(4) an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
(5) an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
