A message from the dean: Welcome back!

Welcome back to a new year at the College of Engineering! And for our new students, welcome to Temple and your start in our profession. Engineering is one of the most important and practical vocations for a changing and increasing technology-driven world. We touch so many different industries and have many career paths available to us.

Engineering graduates are consistently among the top ten in-demand degrees sought by employers. With this, I advise you that the work is rigorous but rewarding. However, we are confident in your skills and potential; you are among the best in the University and the most qualified in the College of Engineering's history.

The faculty and staff does a great job in helping our students in their studies. These are not just experts in the field of education but some of the best education professionals and researchers in engineering and science. Get familiar with faculty mentoring. Take advantage of their wisdom and the access you have to them.

The quality education you receive comes from across the board — from faculty and staff to curriculum and facilities. Over the summer we have renovated facilities and technology has been upgraded. For new students, I have been heavily involved in evolving one our most important courses, Intro to Engineering. It will be an avenue for you to learn about the different disciplines and to gain exposure to the application of these many areas of engineering.

Be sure to explore all the opportunities offered by the College — as a new student or even if you are deeper in your studies — from the professional societies to the student groups and networking events. Your peers can provide tips and a support system that will help you do well. Our best students are our most involved students.

We look forward to seeing you experiment and expand your horizons. Let's make this academic year a productive and successful one.

All the best,

Keya Sadeghipour
Dean of the College of Engineering
